HOW DO OUR MACHINES WORK? / WHY DO THEY WORK?
The HYPOXI L250 is similar to a normal exercise bike. However, with our machine, your hips and legs are also enclosed in a vacuum chamber. The treatment involves a certain amount of negative pressure (specific to your body) that is applied to your skin while you perform a gentle cycling motion.
The applied pressure stimulates your blood supply to any fatty tissue located on your hips, thighs and bum. These areas traditionally have poor circulation, especially for women whose bodies are pear-shaped.
Using periods of vacuum treatment, the HYPOXI L250 then transports fat enriched blood to your muscles where it is burnt as energy for movement.
The Hypoxi Vacunaut is similar to a normal treadmill machine. However, when you use our machine, you also wear a special suit made of airtight neoprene that applies negative pressure. While you gently exercise, the suit’s 122 vacuum chambers switch back and forth from negative to positive pressure. This process stimulates your abdominal muscles, causing contractions.
As the negative pressure is applied, it creates a vacuum motion—encouraging blood to flow to fatty tissue around your stomach and hips. Here your blood is enriched with fatty acids.
Then, during periods of positive pressure, your blood that is infused with fatty acids is moved from your dermal tissue into your bloodstream where it is transported to your muscles. Your exercise motion then burns these fatty acids as fuel.
The HYPOXI Dermology machine utilises the ancient principles of Chinese cupping to treat the tone and texture of your skin, as well as stubborn cellulite.
During a HYPOXI Dermology treatment you wear a special bodysuit that is airtight. This suit has 400 networked pressure chambers situated around your stomach, thighs, hips, bum, and knees.
Using high and low pressure (via the chambers), your circulation is stimulated in these specific areas. This causes your dermal tissue to be enriched with blood, which increases the activity and regeneration of your cells. The machine also helps you dispose of lymph fluid and any toxins that have built up in your tissue.
HOW DO I START HYPOXI TREATMENTS?
Before you can start HYPOXI treatments, you’ll need to book in for a consultation with us at HYPOXI Newstead. During the consultation one of our trained therapists will assess your situation, including current needs and goals.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED TO HAVE?
This varies from person to person. But you will likely need a program of 12 or 24 sessions.
WHEN WILL I START TO SEE RESULTS?
Our HYPOXI training machines allow you to concentrate on losing fat from your problem areas. So, for example, each kilogram of bodyweight that you lose will equate to a 1 cm reduction in circumference per thigh or around your stomach (if these are your target areas).
Studies have shown that this weight and circumference loss is around 3 times more than you could achieve without HYPOXI training, using regular exercise.
After 4 weeks you should have lost one size clear.
As for when you will reach your overall goals, this varies depending on your individual condition and your targets. However, most HYPOXI customers reach their goals within 1–3 months.
WHY IS MY SKIN TEMPERATURE MEASURED AT MY THIGH?
During regular exercise and training, thighs with cellulite get colder. But during your HYPOXI training, your blood supply is stimulated and your metabolism increases. This is why thighs with cellulite get warmer, and we take the temperature from there.
DOES HYPOXI HAVE SIDE EFFECTS?
There are no known side effects from HYPOXI. You may feel a bit more thirsty than normal, because your body is detoxing.
HYPOXI is obviously much safer than dramatic alternatives such as surgery. And it’s much more effective than treatments that require you to simply lie down. These passive treatments don’t engage your muscles.
IS HYPOXI SUITABLE FOR UNFIT PEOPLE?
Absolutely. The beauty of HYPOXI is that our training has been specially designed to work for women and men, regardless of how fit or how old they are. In fact, HYPOXI training is perfect for someone wanting to get back into exercise after many years. You don’t need any special level of fitness.
When you attend a HYPOXI studio for the first time you’ll need to fill in a client information form. This will alert us to any issues, illnesses or conditions that will prevent you from training with us. If you are concerned, speak to your doctor or medical professional before attending. Your health and safety is of utmost important to us.
During the treatment, we constantly monitor your heart rate, as well as the temperature of your skin, to make sure everything is as it should be.
WHO IS NOT SUITABLE FOR HYPOXI TRAINING?
You can’t do HYPOXI training if you:
- have a major illness
- have an infection
- are at risk of inflammation or thrombosis
- are pregnant.
You also can’t be under the influence of drugs.
WHEN CAN I RESTART HYPOXI TRAINING AFTER CHILD BIRTH?
In most cases, you can safely restart HYPOXI training 6 weeks after a normal birth, and 2 months after a caesarean. However, if you are in doubt, you should speak with your gynaecologist first.
CAN I DO HYPOXI IF I’M BREASTFEEDING?
If you are breastfeeding you can only partake in some HYPOXI training. You can use the L250 machine, but not the HYPOXI Dermology or Vacunaut machines.
CAN MEN DO HYPOXI TRAINING TOO?
Absolutely! HYPOXI therapy has been designed for women as well as men. In particular, the Vacunaut machine is popular amongst men as it targets fat around the stomach and hips.
We cater HYPOXI sessions to each individual’s needs, so men may do a very different training program to most women.
WHAT CLOTHES SHOULD I WEAR FOR TRAINING?
If you’re training on the L250, you’ll need to wear comfortable clothes such as loose fitting pants, a t-shirt and runners. It’s also recommended that you bring a towel.
When using the Vacunaut machine, you’ll need to wear tight clothing. This includes skin-tight bike pants, a fitted t-shirt, and runners. Make sure you also bring a towel.
For the Hypoxi Dermology machine, you should wear loose pants, a t-shirt and socks.
WHAT SHOULD I EAT AND DRINK BEFORE AND AFTER HYPOXI?
On days when you do HYPOXI training:
Make sure you drink enough water. That means at least 2-3 litres of liquid each day.
Before a HYPOXI session:
We recommend that before a HYPOXI session (1-4 hours) you eat meals rich in carbohydrates (ideally wholegrain food).
After a HYPOXI session:
• Don’t eat any carbohydrates for at least 8 hours.
• Eat lean protein, salads and vegetables (non-starchy). Make sure that any salad dressings are light and use mainly oil and vinegar.
On days when you don’t have HYPOXI training:
• Stay away from sugar, fatty foods, and alcohol.
• Eat healthy food that is full of nutrients. Also drink 2-3 litres of water (or drinks with no calories, such as herbal tea)
SHOULD I DO EXERCISE OUTSIDE HYPOXI?
On days when you have HYPOXI training, don’t do any other sports or exercise—particularly after a session. This will simply delay the process of you reaching your goals.
However, on days when you don’t have HYPOXI training, feel free to exercise.
